TRADITIONAL TATTOO AFTERCARE
If your artist put a temporary wrap or bandage on you at the studio, it will need to be gently removed within 2 hours of leaving our studio.
Wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap.
Gently wash your tattoo with an unscented liquid soap.
Let your tattoo air dry or gently pat dry with a clean paper towel.
Once your tattoo is completely dry, apply a very thin coat of an aftercare product that is specifically made for tattoos or an unscented lotion.
You will need to reapply the aftercare product or unscented lotion at least 5 times a day.
Make sure to wipe your tattoo with a clean paper towel prior to reapplying any aftercare product or lotion.
Make sure your hands are washed thoroughly and clean each time you reapply any products to your skin.
Please make sure that you keep it slightly moist at all times.
The initial healing time for most tattoos is 7-10 days, but complete healing can take up to 4 weeks.
Avoid soaking or getting your tattoo wet for any length of time beyond a normal shower.
Avoid any direct sun exposure for at least 2 months.
Use sunblock at all times to protect and keep the ink vibrant after the tattoo is completely healed.
Do not pick or scratch your tattoo.
Be mindful that this is an open wound and to treat it with care!
Wear loose, clean clothing over your new tattoo.
Contact a healthcare professional if there are any signs of an infection.
Derm-Shield aftercare
If we applied a clear Derm-Shield bandage, this can be left on for up to 72 hours.
This will allow your tattoo to begin healing and protect it from bacteria and other contaminants.
If there are any fluids leaking from the Derm-Shield bandage prior to 72 hours, gently remove it immediately and follow through with the traditional aftercare process.
If fluids can get out, then bacteria and debris can get in. So it is best to remove it.
If you see any abnormal or excessive redness and/or swelling, or start feeling excessive itch- in case of the Derm– Shield, remove it immediately and start traditional aftercare.
It is not uncommon to have a reaction to the Derm-Shield, so be mindful before removing the Derm-Shield bandage, and wash your hands thoroughly with warm water and soap.
Gently remove the Derm-Shield bandage by pulling on one edge and peeling it off completely.
Sometimes, doing this in the shower under warm water makes it come off easier.
The bandage is slightly stretchy, so be gentle when removing.
Once the Derm-Shield bandage is completely removed, gently wash your tattoo with warm water and an unscented liquid soap until it is completely free and clear of any residues.
Continue with traditional aftercare.
